BUKI AKOMOLAFE is a Berlin-based clothing label founded in 2016 by designer Buki Akomolafe. Drawing from her German and Nigerian heritage, the label blends tradition, craftsmanship, and modern design sensibilities into a unique aesthetic vision.
Buki’s early years were shaped by time spent in Nigeria alongside her father, who managed an agricultural project (VPP Nigeria). This experience instilled a deep respect for conscious resource use – an ethos that remains central to the brand today.
BUKI AKOMOLAFE stands for contemporary, high-end womenswear characterized by precise tailoring, a touch of androgyny, and the use of high-quality, eco-conscious materials. Each piece is a tribute to the modern gentlewoman – merging clean European tailoring with the rich craftsmanship and textile traditions of West Africa.
The brand creates a dialogue between cultures, offering fashion that is globally relevant yet deeply rooted in personal and cultural narratives. Through this approach, BUKI AKOMOLAFE fosters a new awareness of fashion – one that honours both responsible design and the stories behind materials.
All garments are handcrafted in Berlin using organic and certified cotton and a luxurious hemp-silk blend. The only exception is the African wax prints, which are ethically sourced from the Netherlands. By keeping production local, the label minimizes its carbon footprint and ensures the highest level of craftsmanship.
